Today at CUPS (9/22/11)
WE HAD A COUPLE OF CASE MANAGERS COME IN TO GET ITEMS FOR THEIR CLIENTS.
WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HELP A VERY APPRECIATIVE YOUNG LADY GET SOME BEDS IN ORDER FOR HER TO GET HER KIDS BACK FROM THE STATE.
ALSO, A KIND MAN BROUGHT US A SMALL FRIDGE FOR THE CUPS KITCHEN SO WE CAN KEEP THE CREAM FOR OUR COFFEE COLD! yum...
New CUPS Location is Now OPEN!!!
Ok, so we've been "open" for a couple weeks, but we had some kinks to get worked out and furniture to arrange 8000 times until it felt JUST right.... but we've done that and so now... dun da da DAH.... We're ready to say that we are open.... :-)
So, everyone is welcome to come by 211 A Guilbeau Rd in Lafayette on Thurs & Fri 12-6 or Sat 12-4 and see the new place.
We are still offering assistance by appointment only. The number to call for that is still 337-234-4848.
Don't let the "Stereo One" sign out front fool you - CUPS is open and running full speed ahead... :-) We'll get that sign down soon! and are working on hanging up an actual, real-life CUPS sign asap! CUPS has NEVER had a real sign out front of any of our buildings... but we like this place and think you will to, so we are getting a sign!
We haven't really announced that we are open, but we have already been able to accept several - like maybe 9 truck-loads full! of donations. And we've assisted a couple families with household items. At least two families with emergency food. Two others received a small bit of financial assistance from our compassion fund.... and the list of folks waiting for assistance is growing daily as Marilyn tries to keep up with the phone calls!
Come by and visit, share some abundance, drink some coffee, and maybe even add a prayer to the post-it note prayer wall..... We'd love to see ya!

Abundance
Abundance was sooooo evident this weekend. Here is one example of where I saw it.
A woman called a Lafayette, LA Church in distress. Her mom died awhile back and the house was finally selling. Now, they had to come in from out of state, hurry and pack everything (they wanted to donate most of it), close on the house, and then get back to their home-town and back to work. They had about a day and a half to get it all done and she was kind of panicked.
But, she happened to catch a CUPS volunteer who was answering her church's phone. She said "CUPS will help" and she activated some other CUPS volunteers who spent Friday helping pack and clear the house. The CUPS warehouse was SOOO full after that.
Friday, in the late afternoon, as the volunteers were resting from their packing/moving job, someone knocked on the CUPS door. They'd just had a fire and had lost everything. They were lucky to have a house to move into, but needed beds and a couch and a table and dishes and...- really, they had to start over and they needed everything.
SOOOO, Abundance working at it's best: The stuff we just took in went right out the door.
I love it when it works out that way!
Blessings!

Day One of Blogging....
It is with a little trepidation.... and lot of excitement that I start typing today.... It feels like the times I have tried to start journaling. The blank page (in this case, the blank screen) is a bit overwhelming.... so many possibilities.... where to start?
Well, this morning started with a group of ministers from Trinity Bible coming to tour the CUPS cafe/warehouse. There were about 8 of them and each of them were so excited and passionate about how they could best mobilize the people of Trinity Bible to connect with the various non-profits and service agencies in the area.
Meanwhile, Kenny (a gung-ho CUPS volunteer) has been making load after load with "in-coming" donations. The warehouse went from empty to full.... in about a day!
So, I'm feeling so motivated, which is good, because today is the day I had set aside to set up "social media".... So, I've been setting up facebook accounts and blogger accounts (hence, the blog!).... and I'm dreaming about all the possibilities for using these new tools to share how CUPS is serving the community and how others can join in the fun.
I'm looking forward to this journey!
